Please complete this form if you would like to be notified when the application opens for the 2023 STEM Research Grant.  The application will open in Summer 2023.

STEM Research Grants provide support to middle school and high school teachers engaging their students in authentic scientific research. Over 5 years, $540,000 has been awarded to nearly 300 teachers. Priority consideration is given to schools who support low income students and students underrepresented in STEM fields.

In 2021, we offered $1,000 worth of take-home STEM equipment to teachers and also allowed teachers to apply for up to $5,000 in order to purchase specialized equipment.. In 2023, the Society may decide to continue this format or may decide to change the format.  More information will be posted on the website as it becomes available.

For the purposes of this grant, a research project is defined as an independent investigation by a student involving experimentation to answer a scientific question outside of regular classwork. Independent research projects are frequently entered into science fairs and other competitions.

Eligibility:
  • Teachers must be employed full time by a high school or middle school in the United States.
  • Preference will be given to teachers at schools that are composed of at least 25% low income students or 25% students of underrepresented race or ethnicity in STEM - American Indian or Alaska Native, Asian or Asian American, Black or African American, Hispanic or Latino, Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander (Melanesian, Micronesian, or Polynesian).
