The annual
Research Teachers Conference, a program of
Society for Science, will take place October 4 - October 6, 2024 in person in Washington, DC. Travel, lodging, and meals will be covered for all attendees. Teachers of all levels of experience, from beginner to veteran, are welcome to attend.
Please complete the following information to enter the lottery. The lottery sign-up will close August 1, 2024 and those selected will be notified in the following weeks.
Eligibility: (no exceptions)
- Must be employed full-time by a high school in the United States
- Must teach a STEM course to students in at least one grade between 9th and 12th
OR serve in another role enabling you to promote STEM to students in these grades
- Must work directly with students (If you work with teachers, please invite them to sign up.)
Past attendees should reenter to be eligible for future opportunities. Preference for attending will be given to schools who have not attended in the past, with the exception of Captains.
Research Teacher Captains:
Twenty-five former intermediate or veteran attendees will be selected to return as Research Teacher Captains. They will each:
- Present a breakout session at the conference, along with a first-time attendee partner
- Serve as a resource to 7-8 first-time attendees during the weekend
- Agree that attendees may contact them in the future for advice
- Present the Society's Outreach and Equity Programs to at least 10 teachers at a conference or training external to the Society's programs

- Signing up for the lottery does not obligate a teacher to attend. If invited, you may decline the invitation without penalty.
